After realising how expensive plant based milk is pretty early on into our Veganism journey, we decided to look into alternatives. After a little research we found out that it was relatively easy to make your own plant based milk at home.
After trying all kinds of plant based milk available at the supermarket. We decided that our favourites were Oat or Almond milks. After pricing up the costs of making both types the most cost effective was the Oat Milk and so for the past approx. 4 months we have been making our own 🙂
We went online to purchase a nut milk bag to strain our milk though which was only £6.95 from Lovetree on Amazon and started off making our own milk.
In order to make our Oat Milk I add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the blender, followed by 3 cups of filtered water. To this I add one cup of oats and blended on high for 1 minute.
After this has been blended I placed our nut milk bag over a bowl and poured all of the mixture in. Using my hands to squeeze out the last of the milk.
I then pored this using a funnel into out glass bottle and placed this in the fridge to chill.
This milk is really creamy and full of flavour. The addition of the vanilla extract gives it a sweet taste and it is perfect in a nice cup of tea or coffee. So simple and easy 🙂
*it is important to note that like with all other plant based milks, these will separate in the fridge slightly and so will need shaking before serving 🙂
